IMAGINAL-DISC
is a work series i’ve been on since a while. based on many interlocking circularly arranged subdivisions creating a structure reminiscent of data discs or labyrinths, mandalas or floor plans of modern cities, ..you name it! it is a purely abstract work, out of joy in playing with shapes and colors.
i see the world in forms. the circle has a special position, the queen of all forms, if you will… the most beautiful and balanced form ever, embodying total silence (ohm) and at the same time containing total chaos (pi). as long as i can remember i like to work with circles.

when i red about the secret of the metamorphosis of a certain butterfly, the caterpillar of which pupates and digests into an organic liquid to reassemble into an entirely new life form. in this organic soup the remains of cell nuclei, the so-called “imaginal discs”, contain all information to rebuild a complete new organism. it’s about information, about data, about rebuilding it anew, ..too perfect a metaphor not to serve as title here!
